And the Best Flex 2 Developers in the Rest of the World Are...

Drum roll please... the greatly anticipated results of the Flex ROW Developer Space Race are in - and I bet you're dying to know who the lucky winners are!

Before we crack open the big white envelope, everyone at RocketBoots would like to give a big thank you to our two expert judges Steve "Tink" Downs from the London MUG (also just started the London Flash Platform Group), and Matt Voerman from the Perth MUG - between them is mostly magma, so as far as representative world coverage goes I think we did pretty well.

There weren't quite as many entries as we thought there would be (although the quality of entries was way beyond what we expected) so awarding prizes for categories just wasn't going to work. However we did promise six iPods so instead we'll just award them to the six best entries across all categories. With eight entries I'm afraid this is going to be a bit like musical chairs - but where else would you find a competition with a 75% chance of winning an iPod :-). Here they are, in order:

ROW Results
Place Entry Entrant
1
Flex Barcode Reader Mike Shaw
2
Flex Australian Weather Observations
Hilary Bridel
3
Medford Family Gallery
Jeff Medford
4
SWFZ Engine
Johnathan Halse
5
Time Management Control
Gareth Edwards
6
FC64 Emulator
Claus Wahlers

Congratulations to the winners! All competition entrants will also receive a copy of the Flex 2 API Visual Reference poster.

The judges decision is final, but I just wanted to mention that there were some hard decisions to make. In particular several people pointed out that the FC64 was also entered in the US Derby - I made the call to include Claus because the prizes are going to individuals and I don't want to discourage international community collaboration (In fact living in Australia I think there should be a lot more of it going on) - and of course it is extremely technically cool (I have fond memories of 6510/6502 assembly programming from my school days).

Australian readers might like to note that there is now an Australian Flex Developer Derby being run by ZDNet and Adobe with some rather nice prizes. The deadline is August 9 - so any of you who missed out on our competition will have another chance to prove your mettle. I'm going for the plasma TV myself...

Cheers,
Robin
