Announcing the RocketBoots Rest of World Flex Developer Space Race!

Want to strut your Flex 2 stuff but don't live in the US or Canada (excluding Quebec - what did they do to deserve that)?

RocketBoots is proud to announce the RocketBoots R.O.W. Flex Developer Space Race, with 6 x 2Gb iPod Nanos and global fame up for grabs. The competition is open to any human over 18 years old who doesn't qualify for the Adobe Flex Developer Derby. The competition is otherwise similar:

  • Applications to be written using Flex 2 Beta 2 or 3 with server side environment of your choice.
  • The first 25 entries will receive Flex 2 Visual reference posters from RocketBoots.
  • Your application will be listed on our site along with with an application name, description and link to your website.
  • Applications containing offensive or explicit content will not be accepted.
  • An independent panel of judges from the community will judge the submitted applications and select one winner in each of six categories:
    1. Product configurators/self-service guided applications
    2. Components and gadgets
    3. Data dashboards
    4. Mashups
    5. Communication/Collaboration
    6. Just Freakin' Cool
  • Using a points system the panel will judge each submission on the following criteria: originality, ease of use, design and use of Flex features.
  • Limit of one entry per participant.
  • Entries to be hosted on server accessible from the internet until at least one week after competion close date.
  • Entries to be submitted using the contact us form on our site by 6:59am Tuesday May 2, 2006 GMT.
  • Judges decision final. Winners will be announced on this site within a week of the competition close date.
  • This competition is a game of skill.

To get started, download the Flex 2 beta and develop your application. Once you set up your application on an internet accessible server send in your entry details. Sites UIs can be contain languages other than English, but the common language of the judging panel will be English, so your description should be in English.

Good luck everyone!

Cheers,
Robin

Does that include sub-humans too...

>> excluding Quebec - what did they do to deserve that They have differing laws regarding contests of this type than the rest of North America and often are excluded from contests for that reason

We'll cross that bridge when someone from Quebec wins an iPod :-)

Yeah finally a world wide competition on the world wide web !! using a technology for the www. lol I have always wondered if there was some legal reason for US competitions being limited to US? Anyone?

Yeah, I emailed Macromedia and they say cannot bend the rules wor..damn. No wonder many people here (Singapore) still think flash = skip intro. And Flex = ???

If I've got an idea, but haven't much experiance with flash or flex. Is it worth me giving it a shot? Will I be looked down upon if my code is a bit messy or not best practice? I've started, but hopefully with the new baby coming I'll get to finish it? Will you take partly finished applications? As in, something that works, with buttons that are set to be implemented in the future? Cheers Gareth.

Hi Gareth - give it a shot. It will need to at least run :-) but to be fair to everyone entries will be judged on an as-is basis, so a button with a label "click for amazing 3D data visulisation" that does nothing will be judged the same as a button.
